A long, long time ago ... In a galaxy far, far away. Well, I'm hyped. I'm a die-hard Star Wars fan, even if I have some ... issues with some episodes. Overall, I love it. George Lucas created an amazing universe, even if he did borrow a little too much from other books. And movies, too.
I'm all decked out in Star Wars galaxy print leggings, a Mark Hamill/Luke Skywalker T-shirt, and Princess Leia hair (Cloud City style). Yup. This day is just an excuse to fangirl. I'm all ready to have a Star Wars marathon-William Shakespeare style. William Shakespeare's Star Wars (by Ian Doescher) is amazing. I'll post six reviews when I'm done with them, one for each episode. Unfortunately, I don't have VII yet, but I'll do what I can.
I'm afraid that I don't enjoy Star Wars quite as much as I did a few years ago, but it's still a strong fandom in my book. It's a space fantasy! What could be better? Well ... Ten year old me would be very disappointed, despite the fact that she loved fantasy too.
Now I've given up looking for a good Star Wars novel, exchanging it for multiple fantasy novels which I enjoy more. I used to read the Jedi Apprentice series, and looking back, I realize how awful those books were. Poor writing, poor characters, plot, and everything else.
Now I'm writing my own novels. Which probably aren't much better, but I know I can write. And I know what I write is better than Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle. And better than Allison-I-forgot-her-last-name's The Naming. First rate trash if I ever saw it. I know I'm not as good as Tolkien, or Brian Jacques. I'm no master of the pen yet.
*SPOILER ALERT FOR THE NAMING*
Tell me, do you think that it's a good plot loop if the MC's mentor (Who is about 20+ years older than her) falls in love with her after three days, and then the MC leaves, and the dark forces are after her. (Still tracking?) They stop and try to extract information about her from the mentor, but accidentally kill him because he won't let them. Because ... he loves her so much, it protects this information from them.
*SPOILER ALERT FINISHED*
Nope. Not kidding. That actually happened in the book. And yet I'm going to finish it because I need books for my Goodreads reading challenge. Star Wars is a space fantasy, though.
Think about it. You have the knights in shining armor, pretty girls who have to be damsels in distress sometimes (But still are pretty sweet and the end of the day), and then you have the evil dark lords. Yup, it's a fantasy set in space. But I love it.
That's part of what makes it so popular. George Lucas and J.K. Rowling were both geniuses. They took two well known types of stories, and slammed them together, making them probably the most popular fandoms to date.
I take my cap off to them.
I have to say, I'm more of a fan of the original trilogy. My favorite episodes are V and Rogue One. The darkest chapters are always there, to let you know that the light will still come, even when the going gets tough.
Well, I'm off to travel. I've rambled on and on for awhile. I'm getting in the Falcon and flying off with the gang. Rest In Peace, Carrie Fisher.
